BIOGRAPHY
Sea of Suns is the solo project of musician Dave Panter, exploring the bright and often nostalgic realms of synth pop, lounge, and downtempo music. It revels in the memories of summer holidays, childhood moments, and the feel of 1970s public information films.
Dave discovered DIY synth and computer music whilst he was still at school. Lack of funds (and equipment) meant he could never truly achieve the sounds he wanted to make. This led him down a few different musical paths. After learning to play the bass guitar, he eventually joined local indie band, The Strand. As the 1990s drew to a close, he left the group as it had reached its natural end. Also, his interest in music technology was reignited after acquiring an Akai sampler. Combining it with other MIDI instruments he created some ambient electronic tracks under the working name of Dumi. A few live appearances followed but nothing was released apart from a few uploads to MySpace. At the turn of the millennium he was invited to join analogue synth enthusiasts, WeirdGear. He helped write and arrange their 2007 debut 'Coffee Girl EP' (Engineered by the late John Hannon). Dave also recorded tracks for the 'Aurora' album, before leaving the band in 2010. After leaving WeirdGear he slowly began to experiment with various styles of synth pop, lounge and downtempo music. Sea of Suns is a continuation of his early noughties ambient techno experiments blended with the retro electronica style he continues to develop. |
